Last week Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LSLGA) caused headlines when they claimed popular Nigerian online casinos like 22Bet and NaijaBet were unlicensed. They said that these gambling companies are operating illegally in Lagos State. However, now the National Lottery Regulatory Commission (NLRC) is saying that these casinos and betting sites are fully legal.

The Companies Have Valid Licenses

The National Lottery Regulatory Commission is distancing itself from the statement from LSLGA. In the statement by LSLGA was listed 43 casino operators that are active in Nigeria. However, the NLRC said that 20 of these operators are fully licensed to operate anywhere in the country. In the following list are the gambing operators that have licenses:

  • 22bet
  • Afribet
  • Bangbet
  • Betika
  • Betwazobia
  • Blavkbet/Betty Bingo
  • CloudBet
  • Gobet
  • Hallabet
  • Konfambet
  • Korebet
  • LiveScore
  • Lottomania
  • Millionaire Powerplay
  • Msport
  • N1Bet
  • Naijabet
  • Paripesa
  • Scratch2Win
  • Zebet

NLRC says that the statement has caused unnecessary confusion. During the whole week they have been bombarded with questions regarding the legality of these gambling sites. Below you can read the public notice from NLRC.

Not all companies have been cleared

What we find interesting is that NLRC did not clear all the companies on the list. There were a total of 20 cleared sites out of the 43 listed. However, NLRC did not even mention the status of the other 23 gambling companies. Other well-known operators on the list include Sportsbet.io, MegaBet, and NairaPowerBet.
